Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to common questions about my practice and what to expect.

Financial Advocacy & Coaching

Is this financial advice?

No. My practice focuses on behavior, budgeting, habits, and goal-setting. I do not provide investment, legal, or tax advice.

How is financial advocacy & coaching different from financial advising?

Financial advising typically focuses on investments and asset management.

Financial advocacy & coaching focuses on day-to-day money decisions, habits and behaviors, and the anxiety that many people face around cash.

Is your practice based on Dave Ramsey principles?

Yes, in part. My practice, and what I preach, is similar to some of the principles taught by Dave Ramsey; however, I also pull from the advice of others like Warren Buffett, John Bogle and the countless other authors I've read over the years, to include my experiences.

I focus on current and future spending and saving habits and behaviors, debt elimination, building strong and long-lasting financial habits and behaviors, and I ensure you have the basics set up (automatic bill pay, retirement accounts, beneficiaries, and much more).

NOTE: Investment advice is NOT given.

Fit & Readiness

Do I have to be in debt to work with you?

No. Advocacy & Coaching isn't only for people in debt.

Many folks come to me because they:

  • Feel anxious towards money

  • Want some financial stability in their life

  • Want money decisions to feel intentional

  • Most of all, people work with me to help them take action.

What if I already know what I "should" be doing?

That's very common. Most people don't struggle with knowledge - they struggle with consistency, confidence, and follow-through. I help turn good intentions into sustainable habits.

What if I feel embarrassed about my financial situation?

You're not alone. Most people have felt embarrassed at one time or another, which includes me.

I am not here to shame or ridicule you. I am here to serve you.

What if my partner isn't on board?

I focus on helping individuals, not couples. I would not be a good fit for a married couple.

Logistics

Do you work with individuals or couples?

I work exclusively with individuals who are at all stages of their financial journey.

How often do your sessions happen?

As often as needed :)

Do you work remotely or in-person?

I prefer in-person, but I will work with people remotely.

Boundaries & Expectations

Do you tell me what to do?

No. This is a collaborative effort. You won't be lectured or pressured. My role is to guide, support, challenge, and serve you.

Is this the same as therapy?

No. It's not therapy, counseling, or mental health treatment.

What if I'm not sure if this is right for me?

I promise there is something we can learn from one another!
